When installing NLES SQL Database Component version 4.8, installer fails to launch or an error occurs

This issue has been known to occur when installing the NotifyLink Enterprise Server (NLES), version 4.8  SQL Database Component on Windows 2003 and Windows 2008 servers.   The remedy is to install a Microsoft Redistributable pack.

Issue:
On new NLES 4.8 installations:  Launch the NLES installer and click the SQL Database component button.  When you click the Install button, the SQL Database installer fails to launch.

On upgrades to NLES 4.8:  Launch the NLES installer and click the SQL Database component button.   When you click the Install button, the SQL Database installer launches and detects that the NLES_IMAP4_POP3 database exists.   As you proceed with the database upgrade, the following error occurs:

The database update utility exited with code: -1

 

Remedy:

In both cases, a Microsoft Redistributable pack needs to be installed before proceeding.  After running the Redistributable pack, the SQL component installer will run successfully.  

The redistributable pack is available through Microsoft’s website at:

Download the file:   vcredist_x86.exe.
